- Map
- A map is one way of representing spatial knowledge (of geo information). Aside from the mapped content, each map contains a map scale and a legend. Usually, maps also feature a north arrow as well as a map grid. There are a whole range of official maps published in the Federal Republic of Germany. These include real estate cadastral maps, topographic maps, nautical charts as well as thematic maps on scientific topics.
- Map of land prices
- A map of land prices features the land sold along with information about the land price. Additional details pertaining to the sales contract and the land price of the reference property assessed by the valuation experts round up the map. The map of land prices forms part of the collection of land prices.
- Map projection
- Map projection refers to a method of representing a three-dimensional surface (e.g. earth) as a two-dimensional (flat) area (e.g. map). Projections can be classified in terms of equal-area, conformal or equidistant projection. Classification in terms of azimuthal, cylindrical and conical projection is based on the specific representation requirements.
- Map scale
- The map scale indicates the relationship between distances on a map and the corresponding distances on the earth’s surface expressed as a fraction of a ratio. A 1:5000 scaled map represents the mapped area 5,000 times smaller than in reality. The larger the denominator the smaller the scale and the lesser the details. Generalization of mapped content is in close correlation with the denominator (the second number).
- Map series
- A map series is a compilation of maps usually having the same cartographic specifications (in terms of form, colours and scale). Official map series published in the Federal Republic of Germany are designated DGK5, TK10, TK25, TK50, TK100, TÜK200 and ÜK200.
- Map sheet division
- The map sheet division is used for the systematic filing of map series. Sheet lines result from geographic grid lines. GIS is oriented towards map sheet free data storage.
- Map sheet free storage
- Map sheet free storage of data means the storage of geo data in a continuous GIS database. This allows for viewing any plan or map extract individually without any sheet line disturbing the appearance of the plan or map extract. Map sheet free storage is deemed to be the best-in-use form of data storage, in particular, for huge databases.
- Map sheet oriented storage
- A map sheet oriented data storage designates a technique which files geometric elements with marginal sharpness. The disadvantage of this system used by previous CAD and GIS generations lies in the fact that a cross-sheet geo feature needs to be saved on two separate maps, which deteriorates data integrity as well as the precision and correctness of maps.
- Media@Komm-Transfer
- The Media@Komm-Transfer initiative was launched by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour in an attempt to promote eGovernment in Germany. GDI-Komm and Xplanung are two projects from among a huge portfolio of projects that were developed within the Media@Komm-Transfer initiative.
- Meridian
- A meridian is the geometric place for all surface points with the same geographic line of longitude. The prime meridian (meridian of Greenwich) and the 359 other prime meridians based thereon are particularly important.
- Meta Information System (MIS)
- An MIS is an information system for existing data portfolios.
- Meta Information System for Geo Specialist Data
- An FMIS refers to an information system for existing data portfolios; this information system is tailored to best meet the requirements for geo specialist data. There are FMIS for the domains of environment, climate and geo statistics.
- Metadata
- Metadata are ‚data about data’. While data describe information that depicts reality, metadata represent descriptions of exactly these (geo) data. They provide information about pertinent topicality, precision, completeness, source, relevant prices and possible areas of application.
- Metadata catalogue
- A metadata catalogue is a catalogue that integrates metadata portfolios and enables the user to gain access to content-relevant data prior to any acquisition. A catalogue of this type contains among other things representation, spatial reference, time reference and quality-specific data.
- Metadata Information System
- Information system for existing data portfolios
- Metadata portfolio
- Metadata in a standardized format; these data describe a data set.
- Metropolitan region
- A metropolitan region denotes a densely populated urban region with higher economic relevance than the surrounding countryside. Metropolitan regions in Rhineland-Palatinate include, for instance, the Rhine-Necker region (incl. Ludwigshafen) and the Rhine-Main region (incl. Mainz).
- Monument
- A monument is a small-sized area or an object (e.g. a singular tree) that has been considered to be particularly in need of protection due to its singularity and uniqueness in nature and thus must not be subjected to any changes under any circumstances.
